The Clean Cooking Alliance is a network of global partners working to create a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.No one’s life should be limited by how they cook. Yet globally, three billion people depend on polluting open fires and inefficient stoves to cook their food, harming health, livelihoods, and the environment. Women and girls, who often spend hours cooking and collecting fuels, are disproportionately affected. The Clean Cooking Alliance works with a global network of partners to build an industry that makes clean cooking accessible to families around the world. Established in 2010, the Alliance supports the development, sale, distribution, and consistent use of clean cooking solutions that transform lives by improving health, protecting the environment, creating jobs and income opportunities, and helping consumers save time and money. Save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and protect the environment by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.Globally, three billion people cook over open fires or traditional cookstoves that burn heavily-polluting fuels like charcoal, kerosene, wood, and animal dung. Cooking this way causes serious health and environmental impacts, disproportionally affecting the lives and livelihoods of women and children.As a leading cause of air pollution, traditional cooking methods contribute to the preventable death of 2.6 million people each year and sicken millions more. Lack of access to clean fuels forces women and children to spend hours cooking and gathering fuel (5 hours per day in some cases), time that could be spent getting an education, caring for family, or earning an income.Yet, clean cooking solutions exist that can dramatically reduce exposure to harmful cookstove smoke and lessen climate and environmental impacts. Use of clean cookstoves and fuels can minimize the amount of time women and girls spend gathering woodfuel, while providing economic opportunities in communities around the world through market development activities.We believe the most effective and sustainable way to address this issue is by establishing a global market for cleaner and more efficient cooking solutions around the world. Our work aims to address the market barriers that impede the production, deployment, and use of clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels in developing countries, creating a world where no one is left behind, and universal access to clecan cooking becomes a reality.
