With many Americans experiencing a mismatch between education and the ability to achieve economic success and stability, there is a diminished sense of hope that success is possible and a decreased confidence in our democracy. The need is greater than ever for education to keep pace with the demands of the economy and workforce, and to prepare students with the right mix of academic, interpersonal, and technical skills needed to succeed. America Achieves draws upon years of experience and demonstrated track records in education, building strong nonprofits, advising and shaping local and national policy, and helping to drive systemic change. Since its inception, America Achieves has served as an accelerator— launching, evaluating and scaling promising education interventions—and, in the past three years, we have increasingly focused on education-to-workforce issues. Through this work, we have developed a model for tackling some of the biggest challenges facing us today in order to deliver results by: bringing together diverse stakeholders, designing and growing initiatives, coalescing vibrant networks, thinking creatively, implementing thoughtfully, and creating an evidence base of what works to build the field. We call this a “Solutions Tank”— going beyond the traditional “Think Tank” model to scale solutions that will lead to economic opportunity for all.
