WALHI/Friends of Earth Indonesia

The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI) is the largest environmental movement organization in Indonesia, with a total of 487 organizations from non-governmental organizations and nature lovers organizations, as well as 203 individual members spread across 28 provinces in Indonesia. From 1980 to the present, WALHI has actively encouraged efforts to save and restore the environment in Indonesia. WALHI works to continue to encourage the recognition of environmental rights, protected and fulfilled human rights as a form of State responsibility for killing the sources of life of the people.
WALHI realizes that these struggles from day to day are increasingly faced with severe challenges, especially those stemming from the increasingly strong domination and penetration of the regime of global capitalism through free market agendas and the hegemony of neo-liberalism, and the strengthening of support and partiality dominant political power in the country against the interests of industrialized countries or global economic regimes. The regime of global capitalism places people, the environment and the sources of life of the people, even the earth as a collision of capital accumulation. Endless exploitation and dredging of natural resources which leads to an environmental crisis, has affected the order of economic, social and cultural life and ultimately increased the threat of vulnerability to the safety and lives of all citizens,
Amid the challenges of struggling to save the environment and the sources of life of the people that are so heavy, a strong and broad social movement is needed to jointly fight for economic, social and ecological justice for today's generation and future generations. WALHI made sure he became a major part of this movement. Vision is that the realization of a just and democratic social, economic and political order that can guarantee the rights of the people to healthy and sustainable sources of life and environment. Mission is to-
1. Develop the potential strength and resilience of the people
2. Restore the state's mandate to uphold and protect people's sovereignty
3. Deconstructing an oppressive and exploitative global capitalistic economic order towards a populist economy
4. Building alternative new world economic arrangements
5. To enforce a just and sustainable management policy for people's livelihoods
