Anti-Violence Network of Georgia (AVNG)

For the purpose of prevention of domestic violence, protection of victims of violence and psycho-social rehabilitation, the National Network for Protection against Violence (DDC, Chairman Nato Shavlakadze, Regional Coordinator Eliso Amirejibi) was formed in October 2003. Its foundation has been preceded by active activities beginning in 2001 to protect victims of violence throughout Georgia. The strengthening and development of this movement was significantly supported by Women's Program of the Open Society Georgia Foundation and the OSCE / ODIHR Gender Equality Office. DDC combines 11 Crisis / Rehabilitation Centers (Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Gurjaani, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Mtskheta, Gori, Ambrolauri, Mestia, Akhaltsikhe, Rustavi and Batumi) and Regional and Regional Committees in all regions of Georgia.

The network counts up to 400 members across the country. The National Network for Protection against Violence is a non-governmental organization whose main goal is to create non-violent society in the country. The nearest objectives are to respond to cases of violence against civilians and to involve government and non-governmental organizations in favor of victims. Since its establishment, the National Network for Protection against Violence has affected many of the victims, mostly women and children. They address the organization after suffering from the physical, sexual and psychological violence committed by their family members.

Members of the DND participated with the representatives of other governmental and non-governmental structures in the process of elaborating the law on "Domestic Violence and Protection and Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence". Which was adopted on 25 May 2006 by the Parliament.

In order to popularize the law, DDC conducted trainings for patrol police and precinct service inspectors in Tbilisi and Georgia regions. Finally, 627 law enforcers participated in the trainings conducted by DDC.

The organization is co-author of Action Plan for the prevention of domestic violence and prevention of domestic violence.

Within the framework of the project "DDC", along with other non-governmental organizations, a series of round tables was conducted, which included representatives of ministries and departments aimed at improving the action plan and discussing the obligations of the Ministries to implement this Action Plan. The Government of Georgia should finalize the final version of the Action Plan after 4 months of the adoption of the law, but so far the deadline for approval has been delayed.

At this stage network work is directed towards actions that facilitate implementation of the law.

The DEDD measures also aim to integrate the capacity of NGOs and governmental organizations to overcome domestic violence in the country.
