Tapepuka

Tapepuka is an organization that advocates for and with at high risk migrant and settled black and minority ethnic (BME) women of African descent, responding to poor practices and failures of services to meet needs.

We believe that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity, respect , sensitivity and patience. We suggest that allowances for understanding context should be made for women whose situations and circumstances might be changing.

Our Mission is to challenge the injustices that disadvantage African women in British society. Our work removes the barriers which prevent both individual women living in northern England and African women generally from building bridges into the wider community and realizing their full potential.

Our social and racial justice campaigns aim to highlight Afri-phobia (anti-African racism) as a specific form of racism that places African peoples at the bottom rung in the nine equality strands (protected characteristics).

We use the International Decade for People of African Descent, whose themes are recognition, justice and development, as a campaign framework.
