Australian Diabetes Council - Diabetes NSW

Diabetes NSW is Australia’s largest member based non-profit organisation dedicated to people living with or at risk of diabetes. Our priority is their health and well-being, enabling them to live their lives well through positive support and education – every step of the way.

As well as helping to prevent diabetes, its complications and improve people’s lives on a day-to-day basis, we support crucial research into finding better treatments and a cure for diabetes.

Support and Community

Diabetes NSW provides instant, trusted information, advice and support from health professionals for people living with diabetes and their families and carers. Our community of over 48,000 members creates a sense of belonging, providing people the opportunity to share experiences and collaborate to support their peers.

Health and Education Services

Diabetes NSW provides continuous educational health and well-being programmes designed to provide up-to-date knowledge and information to people living with diabetes, boosting their confidence and ability to live a healthy life. We also deliver comprehenisive diabetes education to allied health professionals who work in the primary and hospital settings. Our prevention awareness activities, such as education, advice and support contribute to reduce both the development of diabetes and the complications of the disease in those already living with it.

Research and Advocacy

Diabetes NSW has supported the establishment of a dedicated, ground-breaking research programme looking to find better treatments for diabetes and eventually a cure. As a leading voice for people living with diabetes and their family and carers, we are well positioned to represent their views at all levels of government and in all types of public discussion.

What we do

Diabetes NSW aims to ensure those who have diabetes or are at risk of the disease have access to the care and support they need to best manage their health.

Our mission is to prevent diabetes and its complications in the community. We do this through education programs, research, advocacy, and the provision of services to people living with or at risk of diabetes throughout New South Wales.

We act on behalf of and for our members to ensure decisions on policy, research, program and service delivery make a positive difference to the everyday lives of people living with or at risk of diabetes. Diabetes NSW membership provides members and the community with the strength of a shared voice.

Our promise is a commitment to best practice in all the areas that affect people living with or at risk of diabetes, including: privacy and anti-discrimination issues, resource management, the sustainability and accountability of the organisation, prevention and care services.

Diabetes NSW raises funds and awareness around diabetes prevention and management, education and research through community events, corporate and individual membership, fundraising events and activities. We co-ordinate, run and manage community and health-professional education programs, lifestyle programs, fundraising activities and events, corporate and individual membership as well as sponsorship.
