Tech For Ghana

Teach For Ghana (TFG) is a movement of leaders expanding educational opportunities to all children in Ghana. They recruit outstanding recent university graduates and young professionals from varied disciplines to teach in Ghana’s underserved communities through a highly selective, two-year fellowship. The Teach For Ghana Fellowship is a rewarding leadership program that will equip fellows to effect change in teaching practice, school culture, and educational outcomes in the communities they serve. After the fellowship, alumni of the program build on their classroom teaching experience to drive long-term systemic changes in the educational sector in Ghana as they progress into leadership roles in their varied private, public and educational sector professions.

For decades in Ghana, children's economic background and place of birth has determined their educational outcomes and, therefore, their prospects in life. Today, children from the poorest families do not achieve at the same rate as their wealthier peers.

A recent survey by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) found that 98% of Ghana's class 2 pupils are unable to read with comprehension in English and/or a local language. Essentially, these pupils go through years of zero value-added primary schooling, and as they move along the academic trajectory in Ghana's most underserved districts, only 49% of them make it to the Junior High School level.

It is important to note that these educational challenges do not start or end in the classroom. They begin before children enter school and remain due to poverty, inequality and archaic cultural practices. Teach For Ghana exists to change this narrative.
