Canadian Feed The Children is a Canadian Charity that reduces the impact of poverty on children. 

In partnership with community-based groups, we provide long-term access to nutrition, education, health care and livelihood, helping to fight child poverty and increase the self-sufficiency of families and communities.

 


Where We Work

We work in developing countries that have a high under-five mortality rate and in Canadian communities that are affected by poverty. We are currently supporting children and their families and communities in:

- Africa (Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda)
- Bolivia
- Canada
- Haiti

 

 

Areas of Work

Our mission drives our work, so our goal is to reduce the impact of poverty on children. We do this by partnering with local organizations and providing targeted community support in the following areas:


Nutrition - we work with our community partners to lay the groundwork that leads to family food security (i.e. continuous access to good food). Some of the activities involved in this are:
 

- Conducting nutritional assessments, baseline studies and evaluations
- Providing training and support to households and communities
- Maternal health, and pre-natal, post-natal nutrition education
- Provision of nutritional meals and supplements
- Networking with local health institutions

 

Education - We work with our local partners to bring children and education together. Some of the ways we do that include:
 

- provision of school uniforms, supplies and materials
- school feeding programs
- construction of classroom blocks and teacher accommodation
- provision of school furniture
- establishment of alternative education centres

 

Health - Our community partners are aligned with our goals to improve the health of children and we work together in the following ways to make that happen:
 

- Increase clean water access through wells and water points
- Improve sanitation through latrines and hygiene education
- Increase local access to health care professionals
- Childhood immunizations
- HIV/AIDS support and sensitization
- Prevention of and treatment for malaria and other communicable diseases

Livelihood - We help families find creative and sustainable sources of livelihood in a variety of ways, including:
 

- Agricultural support (seeds, tools, livestock an training/standards on environmental protection)
- Small business development
- Business management skills
- Self-help groups
- Savings plans
