TI-Ro carries its activities based on the premises of transparency, responsibility, integrity, solidarity, courage, justice and democracy, and respecting the following principles: cooperation with all citizens and all groups, companies and nongovernmental organizations, public authorities and institutions, international organizations who are committed to fighting corruption by forming coalitions, if such partnerships or coalitions abide by current law and, respectively, by promoting policies and priorities established by TI-Ro bodies, in accordance with the organization’s statute; honesty and responsibility of TI-Ro staff and members, in all their actions; the spirit of democracy and political impartiality in all actions by TI-Ro staff and members.

TI Romania was founded in 1999 through the remarkable endeavours of a group of citizens with a high degree of civic responsibility, and a number of organizations concerned with reducing corruption in Romania. They laid the foundation to the structure and objectives of this organization. That same year, Transparency International Romania was accredited as a national branch of, and declared entitled to continual technical support from, the Transparency International network - a global coalition dedicated to fighting corruption.

Mission

The mission of TI Romania is to promote the Romanian integrity system in solidarity in order to diminish corruption.

Transparency International Romania designed an institutional strategy for 2008 – 2010 in order to inspire and orient the organisation’s efforts to fight corruption towards concrete and sustainable results, following the highest integrity and quality standards.

The strategy is the basis for conducting and implementing anticorruption specific programmes at national level and to determine the interest area for TI Romania at regional level.

The strategic objectives of TI Romania are:

To promote the reforming of the justice system, the growth of the state apparatus and the development of a functional market economy through projects/programs involving all stakeholders in a national integrity system targeting these respective reforms.

To develop a critical mass of support from within the public, by increasing the visibility, credibility and pro-activeness of TI Romania.

To promote a public message that informs about the costs of corruption as incurred by each citizen/household/company, by quantifying costs at the individual level.

To strengthen mutual responsibility among TI staff and members, by setting up internal communication procedures.
