Center for Education Innovations (CEI)

There are thousands of innovative education programs striving to increase not only access, but also the quality of education for children in low income communities.

The Center for Education Innovations seeks to provide systemic and easy-to-access information and evidence about these programs around the world, both big and small. This public good can then aid in global understanding about the results of education innovations, and how to support those that show promise to scale their positive impact.

Results for Development (R4D) through its Center for Education Innovations (CEI) has unique and valuable insight into innovative models – how they are distributed, what they do, how well they work, and how promising ones can be improved, scaled up and adapted to serve the world's poor.

CEI supports these promising models using two mutually-reinforcing mechanisms: a public online platform and a network of country-based organizations surfacing new programs, engaging local stakeholders, and gaining an in-depth understanding of education innovation activity and opportunities in each country.

CEI provides comprehensive, up-to-date, and searchable information about innovative programs in its virtual Programs Database.

CEI uses the Programs Database as a starting point to learn about what works and why.

CEI connects people implementing, funding, and studying innovative programs to translate good practices and enable improvement, adaptation, and scale-up of promising approaches.

Mission & Vision

CEI promotes programs, policies, and practices that increase access to quality, affordable, and equitable education for the world’s poor. Their vision is for education systems around the world to capitalize on innovation so as to increase access to quality education and improve learning outcomes, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable.

They aim to identify promising education innovations, analyze what makes these innovations work, and connect innovators to the wider innovation ecosystem of funders, researchers, and policymakers. They want to ultimately aid in the improvement, replication, and scale of innovations that work.
