Institute for Sustainable Economic Educational and Environmental Design (ISEEED)

I-SEEED strives to build an ecosystem of “solutionists” to solve their communities’ most pressing social problems. They believe that through innovative economic, educational, environmental design, and cutting edge technology, they can create just and sustainable communities for all.

I-SEEED facilitates the sharing of knowledge and resources between schools, businesses, universities, and communities. Their collaborators come from Schools of Medicine, Departments of Social Science, Schools of Engineering, scientists with backgrounds in clinical and preventive medicine, computer science and information technology, social networks, political science, wireless technology and population health, clinical and experimental psychology, ethnic studies, public health, education, child development, gender studies, exercise and nutrition science, urban planning, new media and biology. They see their inter-disciplinary approach as a key innovation and obvious strength. They engage youth and community-members in educational and environmental design, STEAM* Education, and participatory approaches to sustainable community development.

They believe that through deep investments in people, place, systems and structures they can fundamentally transform the built environment – heal social and environmental trauma – and provide opportunities for all children and families to reach their full potential.

History

I-SEEED began in 2010 with a small group of individuals committed to making a difference in people’s everyday lives. They have quickly grown into a “Greenhouse for Urban Innovation” for the young, the elderly, farmers, producers, parents, planners, policy-makers, educators, artists, scientists, and eco-business visionaries that are dedicated to creating practical solutions for people and the planet. In the same spirit that inspired Wangari Maathai to become the first African Woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, I-SEEED along with their strategic partners, is pioneering innovative approaches to meet the educational, environmental, and economic challenges of the 21st century.
