Independent Arts is a small charity based on the Isle of Wight founded in 1987. They use the arts as a tool to improve health, wellbeing and quality of life for older people, and others in the community facing disadvantage or social isolation.

Through the work with older people, they address the main issues faced by the ageing community (the Isle of Wight, for example, has the largest percentage of people with dementia in the country).

Independent Art has vast experience of delivering a wide range of arts activities. Through the Workshops for Wellbeing programme, they deliver creative work in residential homes and other centres across the Isle of Wight.

The funded projects allow us to seek new ways to reach people in the community through engagement in the arts and creative activity.

Independent Arts is always looking for potential partnerships, and is keen to make links with other organisations who share a similar ethos to us. Independent Art recognises the importance of working in collaboration to achieve the best possible outcomes for those they engage with.

Independent Art is keen to develop new arts projects that develop people’s wellbeing, quality of life and transferable skills. The creative activities are designed to improve confidence, self-esteem and motivation, and give people a chance to have fun and socialise.
