Alzheimer's Australia

Alzheimer's Australia is the national peak body and charity representing the more than 342,800 Australians living with dementia and the estimated 1.2 million Australians involved in their care.

We advocate for the needs of people living with all types of dementia, and for their families and carers, and provide support services, education and information.

Alzheimer's Australia is a member of Alzheimer's Disease International, the umbrella organisation of Alzheimer's Associations around the world.

Alzheimer's Australia also represents, at the national level, the interests of its federation of state and territory members on all matters relating to dementia and carer issues.

The role of the Alzheimer’s Australia National office is to advocate on the basis of evidence-based policy, promote awareness of dementia, administer national contracts with the Commonwealth Government and provide research grants to emerging researchers through the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation.

We are committed to a strong consumer focus and have a number of consumer advisory mechanisms: the National Consumer Advisory Committee, the Dementia Advisory Committee (comprised only of people with dementia), a National Cross Cultural Dementia Network, a National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dementia Advisory Group and a Consumer Dementia Research Network (CDRN).

We are represented on many Ministerial and Departmental Committees and contribute to consultation forums and advisory groups.

We are also a governing member of the National Aged Care Alliance and are involved in other key groups progressing the aged care reforms.

We are proud to say that we are committed to achieving a dementia-friendly Australia where people with dementia are respected, supported, empowered, and engaged in community life.

National Programs

Alzheimer’s Australia manages a wide range of innovative national programs to deliver services such as provision of information, support, counselling, training and education to people with dementia, their families and carers as well as to professionals working in the dementia field.

Many of these programs are funded by the Australian Government and are delivered by individual Alzheimer’s Australia Associations in each State and Territory.

The services delivered by Alzheimer’s Australia include:

National Dementia Helpline
Early Intervention Programs such as The Living with Memory Loss Program (LWML)
National Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker Program
Dementia and Memory Community Centres
Counselling
Carer Support Groups
Education for Family Carers and Workers
