Global Health Fellows Program II

The Global Health Fellows Program (GHFP) II, led by the Public Health Institute (PHI), helps the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) address its immediate and emerging human capital needs. The program develops and supports a diverse group of global health professionals. These Global Health Fellows and Interns support and sustain the effectiveness of the Agency's current and future health programs.

In collaboration with PYXERA Global, GHFP-II places highly-skilled private sector employees in short-term pro bono international assignments to help USAID address complex global health challenges. These Global Health Champions advance progress in key areas of global health, and bring a unique public, private partnership lense to inspire innovative problem-solving.

Services

The GHFP-II team identifies, recruits, hires and manages the performance and professional development of fellows and interns at all levels. Fellowships are generally limited to two years with the option to extend for an additional two years. In the US, placements can occur in Washington DC, USAID Bureaus, other federal agencies, and USAID partner organizations. Outside the US, placements can occur in Missions, Ministries, NGOs, and USAID partner country offices. Innovations include rotations and other types of participants including short-term, private sector fellowships (with GHFP-II partner PYXERA Global), undergraduate overseas internships (with GHFP-II partner GlobeMed) and one year early career fellowships (with GHFP-II partner Global Health Corps). There are also non-traditional placements at a variety of sites that provide added value in accomplishing the strategic objectives of the Agency and participating NGOs/PVOs/CBOs.

Internships include a cohort summer program based in Washington, DC and international placements and internships on-demand and upon-request. GHFP-II provides advisory services to onsite managers who oversee fellows and interns to encourage efficient and effective oversight of fellows and interns. GHFP-II partner, Management Systems International (MSI), helps support an integrated performance-oriented approach to the fellows' professional development, setting their experience into a larger career strategy including coaching and an active alumni program. GHFP-II also contributes to the professional development of Foreign Service Nationals.
