International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF)

The International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF) works to develop, support and promote socially and environmentally responsible pole-and-line and handline tuna fisheries around the world. IPNLF’s ambition is to contribute to thriving coastal fisheries, including the people, communities, businesses and seas connected with them.

As a hub for sustainably-minded organisations, they use the influence of the market to forge change through practical fishery projects and stakeholder cooperation. IPNLF membership is open to organisations involved in the one-by-one caught tuna supply chain. Allied with their Members, IPNLF demonstrates the value of one-by-one caught tuna to consumers, policymakers and throughout the supply chain.

They work across science, policy and the seafood sector, using an evidence-based, solutions-focused approach with guidance from their Scientific & Technical Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees.

IPNLF was officially registered in the United Kingdom in 2012 (Charity 1145586), with branch offices in London and the Maldives, and a staff presence in Indonesia, South Africa and North America.

Their team includes international staff and special advisors, located in the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Maldives, South Africa and the United States. Together, they work to make the ambitions of IPNLF a reality, through applying their expertise and enthusiasm.

IPNLF Values describe what they believe in, and act as guiding principles for how they interact with colleagues internally and externally and for how they approach their work.

Their organisational Values were developed by our team of staff and Trustees, and help articulate IPNLF’s culture and identity, inform their strategies, and act as a mechanism for improving their accountability and performance. They believe practicing their Values is fundamental to IPNLF's thriving community. They hope they provide their supporters and collaborators with a positive expectations of what to anticipate when engaging with IPNLF.

IPNLF uses a three-year Strategic Focus to direct where they will apply attention, energy and resources over the coming few years. This has been agreed by the Trustees and executive team to give clarity on overall objectives and strategies, while maintaining appropriate flexibility to allow for adoption of new work beyond this focus if considered in line with Vision, Mission, Values.

Their current Strategic Focus was approved in Q2 2016 (covering 2016-17; 2017-18; 2018-19) and illustrates IPNLF’s five thematic activity areas and the priorities and anticipated indicators of success therein. The Strategic Focus directs the majority of their efforts - and the kind of team, partnerships and projects they engage with.

They hope this focus provides their Members, funders and partners with clarity on areas of mutual interest and shared aims, and they encourage other collaborators to join them in these efforts and help contribute to a thriving future for coastal tuna fisheries.
