Kaleidoscope International Trust

Established in 2011, The Kaleidoscope Trust works to uphold the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people in countries where they do not have their equal rights and are discriminated against because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Harnessing the energy of the LGBT community in the UK, where they have seen such progress, to encourage social change abroad is a complex challenge. It requires diverse, subtle and long-term approaches.

Their work to date has focussed on three inter-linked approaches:

-Raising awareness about the contexts LGBT people face abroad through communications and advocacy within the UK
-Policy change efforts with Commonwealth institutions and member states
-Strengthening skills of LGBT activists and building platforms for their advocacy

They partner with organisations led by LGBT activists and bring them together with British and international policy-makers and business leaders. The UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT Rights, which was founded in 2015, grew out of the Parliamentary Friends of the Kaleidoscope Trust

They are the co-founder and coordinator of The Commonwealth Equality Network (TCEN), the first civil society group to sustainably advocate on behalf on LGBT people within the Commonwealth diplomatic community, institutions and civil society.

Through their engagement with Commonwealth institutions and London-based diplomats from member states, the Trust has identified and developed allies who are considering policy progress to protect and promote the rights of LGBTI people.

Their high level advocacy, strategic networks and commitment to supporting activists has energised and strengthened the impact of those working to ensure LGBT individuals live freer lives.
