Wildlife Alliance is the leader in direct protection to forests and wildlife in the Southeast Asian tropical belt. Their mission is to combat deforestation, wildlife extinction, climate change, and poverty by partnering with local communities and governments.
 
Wildlife Alliance’s comprehensive approach to environmental conservation is only realized through the hard work and support of hundreds of people. 
 
The organization focuses on direct action on the ground to work towards habitat preservation, environmental conservation, and poverty alleviation. They take a comprehensive, holistic approach to combatting the drivers of environmental destruction in the tropical belt. Their forest programs tackle forest degradation and diminishing biodiversity in the wild; their community programs empower local people towards sustainable practices and incomes; their wildlife programs protect and care for endangered and trafficked animals; their education programs help bolster their conservation work in the long term; their advocacy programs coordinate their efforts with policy and decision makers both nationally and internationally.

What They Do
 
Forests

Deforestation creates severe drought, threatens plants and animals with extinction, and directly contributes to global climate change. They work in the Cardamom Mountains of Southwestern Cambodia to stop deforestation and protect endangered wildlife through forest patrol, reforestation and protected forest demarcation programs.
 

Communities

Wildlife Alliance is working in close partnership with local communities to empower people to earn an income that is sustainable for both their families and the environment, and to encourage communities to preserve the cultural and environmental heritage around them through their programs in agriculture and ecotourism.
 
Wildlife
The illegal wildlife trade affects millions of individual animals and tens of thousands of species, and feeds many wildlife derivative trades. Wildlife Alliance began responding to the illegal wildlife trade in 2001. Their approach partners their Wildlife Rapid Rescue law enforcement team with their Care for Rescued Wildlife program.
 

Education

Education is the lynchpin that ensures the long-term success of their conservation and sustainability programs by showing communities the benefits of wildlife protection, threats due to climate change, and the importance of maintaining the watershed. Through education and outreach, they enable people to safeguard their environment.
 

Advocacy

An essential element of Wildlife Alliance’s model is to build financial and political support for conservation and sustainable poverty alleviation policies at all levels of government. With the support of policy makers, it is possible to secure the permanent protection of the environment and dependent communities.
