The Village

The Village was one of the first agencies in the country to provide homes for neglected children. Today, they continue to achieve their mission, “To build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children,” by providing a full range of behavioral health treatment for children and youth, foster care and adoption, and community support services for children and their families in the Greater Hartford region.

Approach

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could make problems disappear with the wave of a wand? Or address everyone’s challenges with one simple service?

But life’s stressors come in infinite combinations, and solutions are not one-size-fits-all.

Holistic

At The Village, they meet families from all walks of life whose unique sets of challenges are best assessed, treated and supported through a holistic, individualized approach.

Sometimes, they reach children and families before serious issues arise. That’s ideal. They can help strengthen their coping skills and offer tools to face life’s challenges.

Other times, young children and adolescents come to them having suffered debilitating trauma, their entire family in crisis. Often, they have sought help many other places and are frustrated and afraid that they’ll never find a solution. They feel hopeless.

Unwavering

The Village welcomes clients into their family. They do whatever it takes to help them unlock their inner strength, grow healthy and stable, and develop the ability to overcome all that life throws at them.

They believe in their clients, even when they don’t believe in themselves. Their success comes from their unwavering commitment to help children and families transform their lives.

In order to accomplish this, they hire the best qualified, most experienced staff and support creativity and innovation so that they can come up with solutions that work.

Community-wide

They are about lasting, sustainable change for children and families today, and communities tomorrow.

That means they share their ideas and expertise with city and state agency leaders, policy-makers, advocates for children and families, and community leaders to improve the system of services for children and families.

History

For over 200 years, The Village has been dedicated to building a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children. In 1809, this effort was established and led by a committed group of women, the Hartford Female Beneficent Society. Over the years, the Society merged with organizations such as the Hartford Orphan Asylum, Connecticut Children’s Aid Society and Children’s Services of Connecticut. Through time there have been changes in the organization’s name and services, but the commitment to assist children and families has remained constant.
