The Sedona Conference (TSC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights. The mission of TSC is to drive the reasoned and just advancement of law and policy by stimulating ongoing dialogue amongst leaders of the bench and bar to achieve consensus on tipping point issues. TSC brings together the brightest minds in a dialogue based, think-tank setting with the goal of creating practical solutions and recommendations of immediate benefit to the bench and bar.

TSC was founded in 1997 by Richard G. Braman, who practiced in the areas of antitrust law, intellectual property, and complex litigation. TSC succeeds through the generous contributions of time by its faculties and Working Group members, and is able to fund its operations primarily through the financial support of its members, conference registrants, and sponsors.

How They Achieve Their Mission

Every year TSC puts on a “regular season” of limited attendance conferences in the three areas of its study. The conferences are dialogue-based mini-sabbaticals for the nation’s leading jurists, lawyers, and experts that allow them to examine leading edge issues of law and policy. They feature a faculty of approximately fifteen judges, lawyers, and experts, and are limited to 45 additional participants to ensure an intimate environment for meaningful dialogue.

These conferences serve as incubators to identify “tipping points” in the law that may benefit from the creation of a Working Group for in-depth focus. When appropriate, a Working Group is formed as part of The Sedona Conference Working Group Series and includes as many viewpoints and areas of expertise as possible to develop best practices, guidelines, or principles of practical and immediate benefit to the bench,bar, and all other participants in the legal system. Their findings are developed and enhanced through an extended peer review process and the resulting content is widely published in conjunction with educational programs.

The Sedona Conference InstituteSM (TSCI) is the continuing legal education extension of The Sedona Conference Working Group Series. TSCI presents fully accredited CLEprograms in major cities around the world featuring speakers and materials from the Working Groups. Through TSCI, attorneys, judges, and other professionals receive high-quality legal instruction at locations closer to their work, at lower cost, and in a more traditional classroom-style format.
