Land is Life Inc.

Land is Life is a global movement on the frontlines of safeguarding the rights of Indigenous Peoples to protect lands, cultures and biodiversity for all humanity. Since their founding in 1992, we have built a broad, trusted network of Indigenous leaders, communities and organizations defined by solidarity, transparency and a shared vision of the future. They are committed to equipping their grassroots Indigenous partners with the skills, strategies and resources needed to campaign successfully for their right to self-determination.

Global Team

The day-to-day stewardship of Land is Life's mission, vision, programs and institutional advancement is handled by their global team. Made up of Indigenous leaders, activists, anthropologists, and nonprofit professionals, this global team works around the clock to assist the daily needs of our broad, trusted network while ensuring Land is Life, as an institution, is strong at its core.

Strengthen Grassroots Capacity

They directly support grassroots Indigenous organizations through sustained, holistic partnerships that increase their organizational capacity and effectiveness. Recognizing that the needs of every organization are different, they work together to build the sustaining funding partnerships, systems and strategies required to address their distinct challenges and opportunities, leveraging the skills and experience of both the Support Team and our global network.

Build Alliances & Awareness

They build strength in numbers by fostering solidarity among Indigenous groups and establishing common ground with non-Indigenous allies. They forge these links by enabling communication across their global network; hosting or supporting conferences and meetings; facilitating new partnerships among organizations; and creating awareness around the issues that affect the daily realities of their partners.

Indigenous-Led  Grantmaking

We provide direct support to grassroots Indigenous causes that lack access to traditional funding mechanisms through small, flexible grants facilitated by our Regional Coordinators—trusted Indigenous leaders in their geography. The Regional Coordinators identify small, but critically important initiatives and work with recipients to monitor, evaluate and report in a way that recognizes their unexpected and frequently changing circumstances and upholds their right to self-determination.
