Techbridge Girls

Techbridge launched in 2000 as a program to expand the academic and career options for girls in science, technology, and engineering. Since their founding, they’ve worked with over 4,000 girls in grades 5-12 through their after-school and summer programs in the San Francisco Bay area. They believe every girl needs personal and consistent support to succeed, and to that aim they’ve created resources for educators, families, and role models who make up her support network.

Techbridge began as a program of the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, California, founded with a grant from the National Science Foundation. In 2011, Techbridge spun off and now operates as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit. They continue on their path to increase the number of women and underrepresented minorities in science, technology, and engineering. Their after-school programs are in place at schools spanning three Bay Area school districts. They provide training to school districts and partners to build capacity for STEM teaching in after-school and summer programs. In addition, they have collaborated with 20 Girl Scout councils across the nation through their Girls Go Techbridge project.

What They Do

For over a decade, Techbridge has been setting girls off into a lifetime of learning and excitement about science, technology, and engineering.

They strive to inspire girls in underserved communities to discover a passion for science, technology and engineering. They give them access to the hands-on learning and real-world exposure they need to pursue their dreams and careers. They also work with families, role models, school districts and partners to provide the guidance they need to support girls and set them on the path to success. They believe in the possibility of every girl having the power to change the world.

Their Impact

It’s hard to overestimate the need for programs that help girls foster a love for science and technology. Given the barriers and challenges, it is critical to provide support to girls in the steps they need to reach a STEM career. Techbridge works with families, role models and teachers to make a change and inspire girls in STEM.
