The African Aid Organization, formerly known as African Child Care Association, provides assistance, support, and education to children and young adults in Sub-Saharan Africa affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and strives to bring some joy and fun into their lives. We are currently partnering with organizations in Cameroon, Burkina Faso, and Uganda.

Many children in Africa are infected with HIV/AIDS; others have family members with HIV/AIDS or are at high risk of contracting HIV. They address the epidemic through a comprehensive program of prevention and treatment that also deals with poverty, promiscuity, warfare, and lack of education.

Their prevention strategies include counseling and education, condom distribution, risk-reduction workshops, and community awareness events. They recruit and train peer actors and educators, program coordinators, and outreach workers in cities and rural communities to conduct interventions. Their interactive workshops teach young adults about HIV/AIDS, including how it is transmitted and can be prevented, in order to help them avoid behavior that puts them at risk of infection. They also work to better understand the lives and needs of children and youth ages 5 to 24, to understand the circumstances that can lead to inappropriate sexual activities, poor coping skills, and the lack of positive incentives in their lives.

When prevention is not an option, they work with community partners to ensure that children and young adults infected with HIV/AIDS receive health care, educational and vocational training, and supplemental food. They also work to ensure that educational fees are paid, so these children and young adults can attend school. They help young people to discover and use their own vision, skills, and resources to move from abject poverty to abundant living.
