HORIZONT3000 is an Austrian NGO working in the area of development cooperation. With the mandate of their member organisations of the catholic development sector we specialise in the monitoring and implementation of projects as well as in the provision of experts in developing countries.
Partner Countries
Their partner countries include countries in Central and South America, southern, western, and eastern Africa as well as in Asia and Oceania. HORIZONT3000 carries out Technical Assistance programs in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Nicaragua and Papua New Guinea.
Thematic Focuses
The HORIZONT3000 program focuses its work around those people that count as the poorest and most disadvantaged groups in their respective countries, and who usually live in rural areas. These rural areas often lack basic infrastructures in health and education and are characterised by a weak civil society.
Therefore their programs concentrate on four main areas, mainly in rural areas:
Rural Development/ Natural Ressources: Stabilisation of living conditions.
Health: Improvement of basic health services as well as health education.
Education: Improvement of educational opportunities
Civil Society/ Human Rights: Strengthening of civil society structures and empowerment of minority groups through the assertion of their rights.
Professional Strategy and Monitoring
Professionalism and quality assurance are the essential foundations of HORIZONT3000’s success. They work with medium-term country strategies and concentrate on a distinct, manageable number of operational areas. Through continuous monitoring and critical evaluation we assure efficiency and affectivity of our projects.
Financing
Besides its catholic member organisations, HORIZONT3000 financing partners include the Austrian development cooperation (OEZA, ADA), the European Union, individual Austrian county and municipal authorities, and also various national and international development initiatives and non-government organisations.
Technical Assistance
HORIZONT3000 project work has established itself as a crucial gateway between cultures, and comprises much more than a simple procurement of know-how. Their project staff members have qualified professional expertise and practical work experience at their disposal. Before starting their assignments, they also undergo extensive project-specific training and intercultural preparation programs, ensuring the optimal implementation of their expertise in the partner countries.
Capacity Development
They consider the advancement of Capacity Development as a core function of their work. By this they mean the expansion of the capacities of people, organisations and societies on various levels.
On an individual level this involves the strengthening of social and content related competencies as well as of people’s sense of personal responsibility.
On an organisational level our primary focus is on optimisation of internal sequences as well as the improvement of organisational- and leadership-structures.
On societal and political levels the empowerment of civil society is essential for the implementation of autonomous and sustainable projects for the improvement of their living conditions.
