On January 1, 2015, Chiefs for Change became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization led by bold and innovative district and state education Chiefs serving in bipartisan administrations. Since then, Chiefs for Change has added nearly two dozen new members from diverse backgrounds, regions, and political contexts, hired its first CEO and team, and has been working with its members to build a pipeline of Future Chiefs.

The chief executive officers of their nation’s state departments of education and city school districts have enormous influence over the future of learning in America. If they are going to ask them to be transformational leaders and expect them to sustain their tenures beyond the national average; if they are to expect their best policies and practices to spread beyond the boundaries of their own systems; then these leaders need the robust support of each other and of Chiefs for Change.

Students should have choices, and shouldn’t be restricted to a school that doesn’t meet their needs
They must create schools for 21st century students
Great leaders pursue a bold vision with a clear understanding of the practical steps necessary to implement that vision
