Advancement Project

Advancement Projects is a public policy change organization rooted in the civil rights movement. The Project engineers large-scale systems change to remedy inequality, expand opportunity and open paths to upward mobility. The goal is that the members of all communities have the safety, opportunity and health they need to thrive.

With the Advancement Projects' strong ties to diverse communities, unlikely alliances, policy and legal expertise, and creative use of technology, the project and partners have won over $15 billion to extend opportunity. Whether it is to build 150 schools, transform the City of Los Angeles’ approach to its gang epidemic, or revolutionize the use of data in policymaking, Advancement Project evens the odds for communities striving to attain equal footing and equal treatment.

Advancement Project is a next generation, multiracial civil rights organization. In California they champion the struggle for greater equity and opportunity for all, fostering upward mobility in communities most impacted by economic and racial injustice. They build alliances and trust, use data-driven policy solutions, create innovative tools and work alongside communities to ignite social transformation!

Their signature is reach and impact — they and the partners have won over $15 billion to extend opportunity. Whether it is to build 150 schools, transform the City of Los Angeles’ approach to its gang epidemic, or revolutionize the use of data in policymaking, Advancement Project evens the odds for communities striving to attain equal footing and equal treatment.

After years of litigating civil rights, the founders started Advancement Project in 1999 to expand the tools available to end inequity and transform the large public systems that impact the lives of millions of Californians. They are creating a model for the next generation of civil rights progress through: reliance on data to drive evidence-based solutions; innovation of technology and training tools to advance the field; building of partnerships between ground-level advocates and the halls of power; and proven ability to broker multiracial coalitions that reflect the state’s changing demographics.
