Village Water

VWZ is a Zambian NGO registered on the 27th March 2007 with registration number RNGO101/0094/13. Village Water Zambia's vision is to have a country where clean drinking water and improved sanitation facilities are accessed by all.

They foster independence not dependence
Solutions have to be locally appropriate: local people know what works for them and we provide them with the skills, knowledge and equipment they need to manage lasting change.

They work in partnership
They believe in building local capacity and supporting the development of all our partners – Village Water Zambia, the district authorities, schools and communities – in order to increase access to safe water and sanitation. They prefer to invest in partnerships, rather than employ in-country staff directly.

They demonstrate our impact
Their monitoring system allows us to track improvements in health, whether the water-points are working, and the difference this is making to people’s lives.

Data is collected on mobile phones by our local partners, and uploaded to their database. They can clearly see the changes in every community, school and health centre we support and build a picture of those cumulative benefits over time.

Their long standing commitment to demonstrating the lasting benefits of safe water and sanitation set them apart from others.

Impact

They are small but mighty

They are a dedicated team of five, supported by our Board of Trustees and some hard working office volunteers.

They are steadily growing and reaching more people with safe water and sanitation.

In 2014 they became the smallest charity to date to be selected for the Department for International Development’s UK Aid Match scheme. Their fantastic supporters raised over £287,000 to change 11,000 lives in Zambia, matched by the UK government.

Their ethos of value for money helps them reach many thousands of people every year, with no compromise on standards, on a tight budget.
