Where They Work
Looking at the 17 countries where we work, we have "operational countries," where we work directly with the people we help in a transformational way. It includes educating children, empowering people to start and grow businesses, and providing opportunities for clean water and better health.
In our "partnership countries," we provide guidance and financial support to other agencies who execute the work on the ground. Much of our partnership work involves distributing deworming medication and vitamin A (the 44¢ Cure). It also includes support to AIDS orphans in Zambia and projects to prevent human trafficking and support trafficking victims in Thailand, Nepal and Cambodia.
Operational Countries:
Africa: Chad, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda
Asia: Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam
Haiti
Partnership Countries:
Africa: Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe
Asia: Cambodia, Nepal
The Americas: Nicaragua
What They Do
Look at the list below and you will see we have very targeted goals: respond to disasters; dig wells; educate people. These are vitally important programs. It is our commitment to take these programs and run them with efficiency, while using the servant example of Jesus Christ to inspire our work.
In everything we do, we strive to help communities develop in a lasting way. We know that offering people short-term handouts is necessary at times, but it doesn’t solve the greater problem of extreme poverty. The solutions we offer – the work we do, with your help – create sustainable change.
An example of this is how health and sanitation are improved in a developing country. Usually our first contact with people in many countries is to administer de-worming medications. Without these inexpensive pills and vitamins, people young and old have difficulty improving their health and progressing toward a more successful future. We teach people about hygiene and health, build latrines and provide sources for clean water. After we solve core problems relating to unsafe and unsanitary conditions, we build lives. We share friendship. We give people a new reason to smile.
