Association for Human Rights of Andalusia - Asociacion Pro Derechos Humanos de Andalucía (APDHA)

The Association for Human Rights of Andalusia (APDHA) is a private association, non-profit, constituted in 1990 and declared of Public Utility, whose foundation is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed by the UN in 1948. Although the scope of affiliation of APDHA and its direct area of action is the Andalusian territory, its activity can reach universal scope because Human Rights are the heritage of all Humanity.

In the APDHA they demand the full validity of Human Rights as an instrument for the transformation of consciences and of society itself. For this they do not hesitate to act denouncing their breaches with all the instruments at their disposal. Among their objectives is also to support the victims of human rights violations as much as possible and to raise awareness among Andalusian citizens about their principles.

They do not limit theirselves to an abstract defense of Human Rights, they do it from the option for the most disadvantaged sectors of society, the excluded people and those who suffer the greatest violations of human rights.

Their usual activity is carried out through work areas; They address issues of social marginalization, immigration, slums, racism and xenophobia, prisons, peace and disarmament, education for peace and human rights, international solidarity, etc ... They also develop specific campaigns. From the areas they prepare documents, proposals and alternatives on issues related to the defense of human rights in the most diverse areas.

From the APDHA they actively participate in social movements and, with them, they propose that another world is possible, where effectively all people are "free and equal in dignity and rights" as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The APDHA has four fundamental pillars:

1. Awareness of citizenship . An insensitive society is a lost society, a society without a critical conscience, without the ability to respond, to participate, it is an easily manipulated society, in which rights are easily lost. That is why informing and training citizens in the values that the Universal Declaration defends is their attempt to collaborate in the construction of a more just and supportive society.

2. Social reporting . After making a study of the social reality that surrounds the different groups with which they work, they opt for social denunciation, that is, to teach society what human rights are continually violated and look for responsibilities. Through political pressure, their collective aims to influence the direction of public policies that they understand are directly related to the causes of impoverishment of the most disadvantaged groups. For the development of this activity, updated reports are prepared on the situation of the groups with whom they work.

3. Elaboration of alternatives . They prepare work proposals aimed at improving situations in which human rights are violated.

4. Support and Solidarity with the sectors that suffer violations of Human Rights, and as the case may be, action with specific programs.

To carry out the aforementioned objectives, the APDHA is organized in territorial delegations. In total there are 9 delegations throughout Andalusia: Sede Andaluza, Almeria, Bay of Cadiz, Campo de Gibraltar (Algeciras), Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Malaga, Seville.
