Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre - Cornwall (WRASAC - Cornwall)

The Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (Cornwall) was established as a registered charity in 1996 by a group of women from the local community. Since then, through the hard work, determination and commitment of women in the community, WRSAC has continued to develop and grow and in the last 18 years has established itself as a centre of excellence in the arena of sexual violence and domestic abuse.

WRSAC has developed an extensive knowledge base and expertise concerning these issues and currently supports over 2,000 women a year through the various projects, working closely and in partnership with all key agencies in both the statutory and voluntary sectors.

WRSAC (Cornwall) is recognised locally, regionally and nationally as being unique in having developed specialist expertise in both sexual violence and domestic abuse service delivery.

WRSAC currently employs 17 staff and supports approximately 40 volunteers.

As a community based organisation WRSAC encourages all women to be involved in and to contribute to the direction and priorities of the organisation. They aim to work in an inclusive and participatory manner and support and facilitate women and girls to be involved at all levels of policy and decision making. Victims and survivors are supported to speak in their own voices about their own experiences and reality.

WRSAC acknowledges that particular groups of women are affected differently by the compounded effects of past and continuing inequalities and abuse based on gender, sexuality, disability, faith, age, ethnicity, economic situation and other status and proactively work towards making services available and accessible to all women.

WRSAC continually monitors and evaluates the impact of their work and consults regularly with the service users, volunteers, staff and other agencies.
