South Cumbria Rape and Sexual Abuse was established by Christine Birchall in 1991 as she was concerned about the lack of support for rape and sexual abuse survivors.

From 1991 – until March 2010 the service was known as South Cumbria Rape and abuse Service.

In order to honour the late Christine Birchall the founder member of the organisation the Board of Trustees and Manager changed the name of the organisation to The Birchall Trust in March 2010.

During 2011 – 2012 they expended the services to include North Lancashire, with counselling rooms opening in Lancaster during June 2011 and Morecambe in May 2012.

They received 5 referrals in the first year of the service and since then they have received thousands of referrals for both Male & Female adults, children and Young people and their loved ones.

All the staff have a current Disclosure and Barring certificate.

The Counselling Team
All the counsellors are experienced qualified counsellors who receive on-going training including up to date safeguarding, monthly supervision, case management and are a member of a registered professional body e.g. BACP, BAPT.
