A global organization formed from the merger of InsideNGO, LINGOs and Mango, they have offices in Washington, DC, and Oxford, UK, as well as regional hubs in Africa and Latin America, with experts based in a range of countries around the world. They believe that behind every development program that works, there is smart leadership backed by strong operations teams, and their passion lies in helping those professionals deliver on their organizations’ missions. They do this with their focus on operational excellence.

Their organizational members—330 strong—represent the dynamic mix of all those leading development work today: non-governmental organizations (NGOs), for-profit companies with an expertise in international development, sector experts with deep roots in global issues, nonprofit policy organizations, and academic institutions advancing sustainable development.

Their engaged community across this network of expertise includes individuals at all levels within these organizations—one organizational membership opens the door to all employees’ participation. They serve those who work across all areas of operations, from the leaders in the C-suite to the managers and other team members dedicated to the functional disciplines of human resources, information technology, legal, and finance, grants, and contracts. 

They also partner with more than 50 industry service providers who are recommended by their members and deeply committed to the NGO community.

WHAT THEY DO

Build Community. Learning, sharing, collaborating, and connecting are the pillars of their organization. Their strength is in their members and their clients, and they bring them together regularly for peer-to-peer exchanges. They convene more than 50 events annually for senior leaders, such as their quarterly CEO, CFO, and COO Forums. Their topical roundtables, free to members throughout the year, are popular events where functional experts discuss problems, solutions, and best practices.  

Enable Learning. Thousands of professionals take advantage every year of their 300+ national and international workshops, e-Learning offerings, and webinars to build their capacity in the areas of USAID compliance; finance, grants, and contracts; human resources; project management; and organizational and operational effectiveness. Their annual conference, a members-only event, provides two-and-a half days of learning, networking, and community building.

Provide Expertise: They have a deep expertise across the functional areas named here. Their annual surveys on HQ and expat compensation are acclaimed industry benchmarking tools; they are also a source of information and insight on indirect costs, software usage, and other pressing topics in the sector. Their members-only online restricted site supports the exchange of issues, ideas, and solutions globally.

Engage in Advocacy: They advocate on behalf of their members, representing their views and priorities to key funders—especially the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of State, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They also work with other partners and coalitions to support the full funding of traditional indirect investments in the key operational capabilities that sustain long-term results.
