The Common Good Institute (IBC) is a non-profit Peruvian civil association founded in 1998 that works with rural communities to promote the optimal management of common goods, such as communal territories, bodies of water, forests, fisheries and natural areas protected. The health and continuity of the diverse ecosystems and the livelihoods of the populations depend on the care and good use of the common goods, especially in the rural areas of the country. The IBC works in large landscapes of the Andean Amazon, north and central, where it develops projects related to land planning and planning, governance for the care of common goods, environmental conservation, sustainable development, respect for the rights and culture of indigenous and non-indigenous populations and scientific and local knowledge. as a whole.

Mission
The mission is to work with the rural communities of Peru for the care of common goods (bodies of water, forests, fisheries, protected natural areas and communal territories, among others), thus contributing to the well-being of these populations and all Peruvians. Key elements to achieve the mission are land planning and planning, governance oriented towards the care of common goods, environmental conservation, sustainable development, respect for the rights and culture of indigenous and non-indigenous populations and the scientific and local knowledge.

Vision
In the vision, Peruvian society takes care of and values ​​common goods (bodies of water, forests, fisheries, protected natural areas and communal territories, among others) based on the wide recognition that the sustainable use of common goods is of vital importance for the welfare of all.

The Institute for the Common Good considers that tradition and the various institutions of tenure and common management of natural and cultural resources, services and spaces constitute a platform for sustainable development; that is, to defeat poverty while preserving the quality of the environment for the present and future generations of women and men. This concept is often denied by those who see the man-nature relationship through an extreme commercial framework and a purely utilitarian and selfish understanding of the economy. The IBC considers as a foundation for sustainable development a balanced relationship between private interests and common interests within a social community.
