The IRGT, a Global Network of Transgender Women and HIV, works with trans organizations, communities, and advocates around the world. Their members are transgender advocates with extensive experience in different world regions, including Africa, India, South America, North America, Asia, and Europe. 

 

The International Reference Group on Transgender Women and HIV/AIDS (IRGT) was convened in 2011 by the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF) out of the need for specific input on global HIV/AIDS issues from trans communities. Composed of members from diverse parts of the world, the IRTG is responsible to initiate and promote advocacy on trans, health and rights as they relate to HIV/AIDS. During the last two years the IRGT has worked on developing its strategic plan and has received small grants to carry out specific activities.

During the last two years the IRGT hosted the first ever transgender networking zone at the Global Village during the IAC in Melbourne in 2014 and has worked on developing its strategic plan and has received small grants to carry out specific activities to develop a technical report focused on human rights and HIV service delivery approaches appropriate for use with transgender people, with guidance on how to adapt approaches as required for local use.
