Cambodian Children's House of Peace is a local non-governmental organization which provides food, clothing, education, health care, recreation, arts, moral development and all the other things children need to grow and develop into proper citizens.
They began in November, 2008 as a residential home for children after our co-founder decided to team up with local Khmer partners to provide for poor countryside children whose families were unable to provide adequate care or education. Cambodia is still recovering from the devastation of the Khmer Rouge era, which ran from 1975-79, but then continued as a civil war until 1993. Virtually every family lost members to starvation, illness, and torture and execution during this reign of terror.
The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace has since grown to support the children who come from very poor families in our neighboring communities in Siem Reap, who lack sufficient nutrition, health care and the resources for attending school. Some children have surviving parents and some are orphaned or abandoned. We provide uniforms and school supplies, and also English classes and tutoring after school.
The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace is transitioning from a children’s home to a non-residential center for area children. With a team of local Khmer staff, the advisory committee members and your generous donations, The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace commits to help the current residential children and youths until they can find their own ways of success and independent living. Now, we expand the project to give much-needed help to at-risk kids and struggling families in the neighboring communities to provide sustainable community development.
