| The objective of the Third Additional Financing for the North Gaza Emergency Sewage Treatment Project for West Bank and Gaza is to mitigate the immediate health and environmental safety threats to the communities surrounding the effluent lake at Beit Lahia waste water treatment plant; and (ii) provide a satisfactory long-term solution to the treatment of wastewater for the Northern Governorate in Gaza. The grants will help finance the cost overruns associated with delays incurred in the construction of the wastewater treatment plant and associated wastewater reuse facilities, as well as the need to provide technical assistance for management, operation, and maintenance (operational costs, institutional capacity building, monitoring of environmental impacts and supervision) under parts A and B of the project. They will also finance incremental operating costs associated with the project management unit. The grants will thus play a fundamental role in achieving the project?s second development objective, which is to provide a satisfactory long-term solution to the treatment of wastewater for the Northern Governorate in Gaza. | ||||
