The Movement for Freedom of Information works to promote transparency in public institutions, to increase supervision of the activities of public authorities, and to encourage the public to make use of its right to information. We believe that the promotion of these goals will lead to the creation of an open, democratic and just society
The State of Israel has very important public matters, which concern each and every one of us, which is still under a veil of secrecy.
We believe that access to public information - a right recognized in most Western countries - is one of the basic civil rights and an essential component of the right to freedom of expression and opinion in a democratic society, and as such, a central right to the existence of a proper democracy.
The Movement for Freedom of Information in Israel was established in 2004 by leading media and jurists to bring about the implementation of the Freedom of Information Law. The law, enacted in 1998, states that every citizen and every resident of Israel has the right to receive information from the authorities. The perception is that this information, is the property of the public and therefore, it can demand it
