The Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Workers’ Welfare Association, abbreviated AWO) is one of six head organisations of the non-statutory welfare in Germany. Because of its history and socio-political self-conception, it is a welfare organisation with a unique character.

Women and men join here as members as well as employed staff and volunteers to shoulder responsibility and help overcoming social problems in our society and to realize a democratic and social state under the rule of law.

The guiding principles form the basis for taking action in the Arbeiterwohlfahrt. They determine the goals to achieve, the understanding of the tasks, and the methods of work. The programmatic orientation is laid down in AWO’s manifesto.

AWO International is the trade association of the Workers' Welfare Association for Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation. In Asia and Central America, they operate together with local partner organizations through projects to strengthen disadvantaged people. Helping people help themselves is the concept of sustainable development the goal.
