Food for the Hungry International was founded in 1971 as a Christian NGO to raise awareness of poverty and hunger around the world, bring food and love to the hungry with the spirit of bread and gospel and help them build secure, self-sufficient communities.

FHI is registered as consultative status, category Roster with the United Nations Economic and Social Council [UNECOSOC] and serves in poverty-stricken communities and countries around the globe by sending professionally trained "Hunger Corps" for emergency relief and development programs.

In 1989, Korea Food for the Hungry International, as the first officially registered overseas aid NGO, spearheaded Korea from receiving to giving nation. Today, KFHI supports domestic social welfare of broken homes, elderly, handicapped through regional offices and welfare facilities and water development, meal programs and North Korea program as well.

Now, 1,131 Hunger Corps and 4,500 staffs are committed to various development projects and emergency aid in 80 countries of all over the world.

International Child Development Program

Child Development Program establishes a one-to-one relationship between a sponsor and a child in need. Sponsors’ contributions help deliver nutritional, educational and medical improvement to children worldwide and support children to grow as a healthy member of their community.

Water Resource Development

For children and residents suffering from water shortages and waterborne diseases, wells are dug and water tanks are installed to provide clean drinking water and livelihood ∙ Water channels are developed for agricultural irrigation system to ensure survival and to help overcome poverty. 

Education Program

KFHI is working to form a foundation which will improve the educational conditions and provide ongoing education, in order to remove the inheritance of poverty and to establish a positive worldview in children. Through educational reform they can become the next generation leaders of their local community and thus, make sustainable development possible.

Public Health/Medical Program

KFHI provides hospital and public health services, clinical care, medicinal drugs, and medical and sanitary public health education to fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other illnesses. Since 2008, health care programs are progressing in Uganda with the ‘poverty reduction Contributions.’

Agricultural Development Program

KFHI helps plow the ravaged land and increase production yield through improvement of seeds, organic production, and other resources so that farmers in impoverished countries can overcome poverty and become self-reliant. To that end, rural leadership training centers, demonstration farms, and rural enlightenment campaigns are underway.
