I Care Women and Youth Initiative (ICWYI)

I Care Women and Youth Initiative (ICWYI) is a non-profit, non-partisan, Non-Governmental Organization established and registered in 2007 with a mandate of contributing towards improvements in health, education and overall well-being of citizens of Nigeria through capacity building, advocacy, awareness creation, community mobilization, public – private partnership and promoting good governance among others. The thematic areas of intervention of ICWYI are education, health and empowerment.

FUNCTIONS

I Care Women and Youth Initiative (ICWYI) is an organization that caters for the overall interest of women, children, youths and other vulnerable groups. For women and children, ICWYI aspires to provide vital information that will guide and promote their general growth and development with focus on addressing their educational, health and other socio-economic needs. It also works to empower them to participate in decision making processes at all levels – individual, family, community and societal levels through enhancement and promotion of safe space initiatives. For youths, ICWYI encourages and promotes their self-esteem, self-sustenance and empowerment drives that enhance their progressive development as prospective future leaders through moral rejuvenation and behaviour modification strategies. For other vulnerable groups, ICWYI continues to improve their standards of living including reduction of stigma and discrimination against those in situations where they are socially excluded and incapacitated because of their social status, impaired, disabling or handicap situation. This it does through support of policies and initiatives both formal and informal that protects their interests and rights as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Between Years 2014 and 2017, under the USAID funded Systems Transformed for Empowered Action and Enabling Responses (STEER) for Vulnerable Children and Families Project, ICWYI reached a total of 445 caregivers including 27 males and 418 females with Community – Infant & Young Child Feeding (C-IYCF) services; and screened 500 vulnerable children for malnutrition in Kaduna South LGA of Kaduna State.

Also, under the World Bank supported HIV Programme Development Project (HPDP2), ICWYI successfully created demand and referred 6,641 pregnant women for ANC/PMTCT services. Out of this figure, 29 women drawn from 3 LGAs i.e. Jema’a, Jaba and Kaduna North LGAs of Kaduna state were tested to be HIV positive and subsequently referred for treatment, care and support.

still under the HPDP2 Project, ICWYI reached 154 Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) with National Minimum Prevention Package Intervention (MPPI) in which 142 were tested HIV negative and 12 tested HIV positive, referred for treatment, care and support.
