Jembi Health Systems

Jembi Health Systems NPC,  is a nonprofit organisation that works in developing countries in Africa and focuses on the development of eHealth and health information systems (HIS). Jembi leads the way on building local capacity within Africa through innovation and commitment towards strengthening of eHealth. The idea for Jembi grew out of the Open Architectures and Standards and Information Systems (OASIS) project, funded by the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) and awarded to the South African Medical Research Council (MRC) in 2007. Its head office is in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jembi is regarded as one of the leading specialist health information systems organisations in Africa and has core competencies in the following areas of health information systems development and implementation: enterprise and systems architecture for health, and the analysis, design and development of software for health systems. Jembi employs these expertise in their work on their programmes and projects as well as in the technologies that their work adds to and leverages off of.

What Jembi Health Systems Do

They promote the use of open architectures and standards in information systems, and partner with governments, local and international organisations and consortia to facilitate knowledge sharing, project work and coordination.

Jembi receives funding from the international donor community and is currently supported by grants and contracts from the International Development Research Center (IDRC), the Rockefeller Foundation, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), to name a few (for a more comprehensive listing of their funders please see their funders page).  Jembi also works in partnership with other organisations, African and International, as well as directly under contract.
