Launched in 2006, the Bantwana Initiative helps local communities in sub-Saharan Africa support orphaned and vulnerable children and their caregivers. More than 25 million children have been orphaned and made vulnerable in sub-Saharan Africa by HIV, AIDS, and poverty. Their model of holistic servicesfor the entire family helps bring about lasting change in the lives of these children and the extended families, neighbors, and communities struggling to care for them.
The Bantwana Initiative builds the abilities, skills, and networks of communities to help highly vulnerable children in high HIV-prevalence countries access the full range of comprehensive support they need to grow into healthy, productive adults.
The Bantwana Initiative (‘children‘ in Zulu) is dedicated to helping children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS—and their caregivers—access the full range of support and comprehensive care they need to grow into healthy adults.
Bantwana is an initiative of World Education, Inc., a nonprofit organization founded more than 60 years ago, in 1951, dedicated to improving the lives of the poor through education, and economic and social development programs.
