The financial sustainability of RSCN is a major concern. Through entry fees and other related business activities, many donor support, RSCN has been able to generate enough revenue to cover almost 50 percent of site conservation costs. The current business model does not meet the demands for the total conservation costs. Therefore RSCN needs financial sustainability, and to improve its institutional capacity in the areas of growth and staff competence and development, The current business models need to be modernized.
This four year project is squarely aimed at building institutional capacity. There will also be a focus on activities that will incentivize marginalized and vulnerable groups located around protected areas with the goal to increase income through complementary economic opportunities and disincentivize opportunities to exploit the natural resources of protected areas as a means to generate income to sustain basic living means.
